Watched Supernatural at [info]vampiregurl19's house after dying her hair. Her hair looks fabulous by the way, but my soul is now shattered into a million pieces thanks to the Supernatural episode (and the fact that there won't be another until January 21st). [info]moniquill was right in that we did technically see the amount of epic and sad coming from the fact that there were TWO funny episodes just before it, but still. EPIC. And CRUEL to leave us there until next gaddam year.

Heading out to Neverland tonight with [info]moniquill. Then, tomorrow afternoon will be spent at [info]circletpress. After that I'll return to Neverland, frolic and have more general overnight merriment with [info]moniquill until about 6pm Tuesday evening at which point I'll be at PMC Camerata until 8:30ish before finally collapsing into a coma at the Farm at around 10pm Tuesday night.

In short, I may not be online until Wednesday night. Do not be alarmed.

Yeah, throwing up last night's Chinese food dinner before heading off to a seven and a half hour shift at work isn't exactly how I wanted to start my day. :/

So one of the bands on Gossip Girl tonight-- The Plastiscines? Not only have I seen them live but their lead singer totally bumped past me at the Patrick Wolf concert I saw over the summer. Not gonna lie I feel really awesome about this.

I love my oldest sister. She not only helps me handle my finances and jovially carts my butt around wherever I need to go whenever she possibly can, but she has also agreed to accept the package I don't want my parents to see at her house. <3

Yes, this is me making an effort to update my LJ more regularly again after a long period of completely slacking. Boring and cryptic, right?

So the Salem trip was something of a wash-- almost literally: it rained pretty much everything out. And then it freakin' snowed. (So, [info]shinigamiinochi, while I'm sorry I didn't get back to you in time-- I literally could not have told you when we were going until midnight the night before-- you honestly didn't miss much. We shall have to schedule a later play time and actually check the weather to make certain activities will be climate appropriate.)

But on the plus side, [info]moniquill and I got pics of our costumes (which [info]moniquill made).

Cut for those who aren't prepared to see my perfectly worksafe breasts defy the laws of physics. )

So the wonderful [info]octoberland is doing a serious, unbiased article on why people hate Twilight. And in order to help her out as best I can, I'm answering her questionnaire from here. I encourage anyone else who might have relevant input to participate if they so choose, but be forewarned, if anyone from my friends list goes over and brats it up in her journal or starts a flamewar, that individual will be punished with all the wrath I can muster.

I'm only answering the survey over here in my journal because I don't think my answers will fit with the LJ comment character limit.

I'm disabling the comments because I don't really think this post needs them. But like I said, if you have something valuable to add to [info]octoberland's article, I really do encourage you to lend a helping hand.

Why I hate Twilight. )

If I had to narrow it down to exactly what it is I hate about Twilight is that I feel it is completely undeserving of the epic amounts of hype. And while I am usually annoyed by people who decide to hate a fandom or anything else based only on how much it is hyped up or the people who like a fandom or something else when it was little known suddenly hating it after everyone else has discovered it, I'd like to think I'm not being that shallow. It's the hype and what the hype has done to the author and the fandom/fanbase-- how they interact with the world and with the work has mutated it into something that does not in any way reflect my own view of the work.

To me, the Twilight series should be a fun, guilty pleasure. A best-seller? Sure. A box office smash series of movies? Why not! The premise for selling all manner of entirely unrelated swag? Uh... okay, if that's your thing. The end-all-be-all of the publishing world, the written word, and all of popular culture? Hell to the no.

Again, I apologize for lack of LJing (and lack of online presence in general as of late). Things have just been crazy at work (like, unpleasantly crazy, even. Understaffed and under-supplied are not fun things to be).

But today (my day off) was wonderful. I got to sleep in until NINE. Then I just chilled out until going to lunch with my sister and nieces at Vinny T's. And then I met up with [info]vampiregurl19. I got to play with her adorable puppy and do some serious work stimulating the economy at the mall (though, of note, as much as I love and worship Teavana, don't bother with their Gyokuro Imperial Green Tea. That shit is nasty and no amount of sugar could save it-- like someone thought it'd be neat to brew corn shucks as tea). And while stuffing our faces with delicious pizza and candy, we watched/snarked a bit of Vampire Diaries (which I've decided I will start watching-- for all the snarking there is definitely enough pretty to warrant an obsession) before watching tonight's Supernatural (which, say whatever you want about Paris-- it was a fun monster and a good episode considering the tragic lack of Castiel).

In conclusion: good fun day was desperately needed and greatly appreciated. Thanks, [info]vampiregurl19.

My life in the near future )

Are you planning to dress up for Halloween? How long do you typically plan your costume? Do you keep it a secret?

View 1031 Answers

Hell yes, I am.

Halloween is easily my favorite holiday, but unfortunately I haven't had much opportunity to dress up in recent years. That is so changing this year. [info]moniquill is making me a custom red hooded corset, so I will be dressing up as a re-imagined slutty steampunkesque Little Red Riding Hood hunter type. It'll be hot. And at some point there will be pictures as I fully intend to wear this costume to at least one party and one con. And also on a trip to Salem sometime this month if I can get one together.

So, yes, consider this my official call to arms fun! I want to go to Salem sometime this month with as big a group of people as I can get together. If you are interested pretty please comment here with your availability so I can figure out logistics.

My Availability. )

I'd also really like to get to Barrett's Haunted Mansion (the regularly scariest haunted house I've ever been to) this year.

Update: After talking to [info]moniquill & [info]julia_dreamer the 18th seems to be the optimal date for Salem tiem so far. But there are still others to touch base with, and as I've said, I'm more than willing to go multiple days, so please, please, please get in touch with me if you wanna go.

After a bit of a rough start with the car this morning/afternoon, I managed to still frolic about with [info]moniquill. We saw Jennifer's Body (which we both loved) and I got measured for the awesome corset she will be making for me and all in all fun times were had. And then Supernatural was all epic and intense.

There. I updated. For the first time in a depressingly long time.

Without being spoilery, I'll just say the episode was good/decent. Not epic and amazing like the Godric storyline was, but solid, certainly. And watching it with [info]yodelsandyoohoo and [info]vampiregurl19 made it even more fun. I think I'd forgotten how fun communal television viewing could be. Memo to self: watch stuff with friends more often.

So it's finally my big weekend off. I got the house to myself. And I can sleep in to my heart's content. At what time do I finally get up because my body feels like it's been sleeping forever, I'm starving for breakfast, and my bladder feels like it's going to explode?

9:00 AM.

Okay, yeah sure, so yesterday I slept from about 6:00 PM - 11:00 PM for migraine curative purposes. But then later I didn't go to bed until like 3:00 AM. It looks like I really can only sleep for six hours at any given time. Perhaps this is the return of the glorious Bethbot?

One can only hope.

So now that work is no longer the swirling eddy of stress and despair that it has been recently (though once again I want to stress that I love the people I work with) I ought to get back into the routine of updating here regularly.

Today, I worked 11am to 6pm. Everything was perfectly fine and manageable. And I actually got to leave an hour earlier than I was scheduled to so I could book it to PMC for Camerata Choir practice. Yup, that's right. I'm that loser who comes back to do the choir even though she graduated. Already re-living my glory years. Initially, I was feeling like maybe it wasn't such a good idea (for the aforementioned "wow what a loser" reason but also since I've been working and commuting like crazy and have been super stressed and tired all the time) but after actually going to practice tonight I was reminded that oh yeah, I get all kinds of fun energy buzzed when I do something I totally love with fun, cool people who don't hate or resent me and aren't annoyed by me! So YAY for Camerata!

I also feel I should get back into the habit of posting my life to dos and scheduling stuff for the people who like to Edward Cullen me. )

Meanwhile, on the books I've read front: Yes, I still have every intention of writing at length about the Dark Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon. But I have shorter thoughts on fewer books I've finished a bit more recently.

First: Live And Let Die by Ian Fleming, the second in the James Bond installments. I was so totally over the moon in love with Casino Royale (link to my spoiler-y discussion on it) and while initially a little hesitant towards Live And Let Die due to hearing about the heavy-handed racism I was just so enamored with Casino Royale I felt compelled continue, especially once I read two reviews to the tune of "Oh, Live And Let Die isn't racist. It just presents the view of the time".

But now I wish I hadn't continued. )

Second-- Today I started and completed The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan: the first in the Persy Jackson & the Olympians series that I've been wanting to get into for ages. And yup, I loved it. )

*****

And now that I've worked on this LJ entry for entirely too long that it's 5 minutes until my bed time, I'm just going to cut myself off here and now.

RIP Senator Kennedy. ;_;

I'm largely very disenchanted with politics, in general, and politicians even more so. But Ted Kennedy was an extremely important, influential, and accomplished liberal law-maker. And as an Irish-American liberal from Massachusetts, I'm saddened by the news of his death and deeply concerned over what this will mean if/when the Senate has a vote on healthcare reform (that is, Massachusetts will be down a vote until a new Senator is elected-- since the Governor no longer has the power to appoint an interim replacement during the election period). More than that, I'm concerned at what Kennedy's death will mean for the future of all liberal causes on a national scale. They just don't make liberals like him anymore.

Funny you should ask that, Victoria's Secret-- I just discovered the greatest bra to ever live (and it sure as hell ain't no Victoria's Secret, let me tell you!) Comfy, great lift, and to top it all off it doesn't look like there's some kind of Xena armor contraption under your shirt.

In other news, I haven't been updating lately because Real Life has frequently made me cranky and I'm trying to cut down on LJ complaining. But OMG today at work was ghastly. Just beyond terrible. The only reason I survived at all was thanks to [info]vampiregurl19.

But rather than detailing my daysuck, I want to concentrate on positives. Fantastic new bras, handy new purse (for super cheap!), new episode of True Blood to watch-- at some point, and today I finished Acheron by Sherrilyn Kenyon, the book I've been eagerly anticipating the most since I started the Dark Hunter series. I've still got a few books/stories left to go, but I maintain my vague fangirlish squeeing about them for now. And I swear an epic, in-depth, full series review sometime in the future once I've caught up.

Also of note, since [info]ceciliatan has returned from far off places, I'm back to once-a-week-ish at the [info]circletpress office. And good thing too! Alpha by Molly Maddox is set to launch on August 31st! So get your lunch e-book money ready, everyone!

And finally, [info]yodelsandyoohoo's birthday is this weekend. And I have vagueish plans to spend the weekend (which I have mostly off) at her place. Fun times (and sporadic internet) will be had.

Cut for whining and TMI )

In other news, I cannot wait for Glee to start airing regularly. I've watched the pilot over on Hulu no less than five times in the past few months since it's been posted and no matter how many times I watch, I'm always entertained and it always puts me in a good mood. It seems at long last I have found the happy chaser to all the super heavy and depressing sci-fi/fantasy television I watch.

Tragically, nobody I know (besides one coworker I never see) has seen it so I have no one to squee to.

So yeah this is me begging people: go watch the pilot of Glee.

So the other day, while taking a break on the Dark Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon (only because I had to wait until I could get the next installments from [info]vampiregurl19) I got my hands on a copy of Griffin's Story by Steven Gould, the prequel novelization of the character played by Jamie Bell in the otherwise subpar movie. After hearing nothing but bad reviews for Gould's Jumper series and the Griffin book, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I loved Griffin's book. )
